About Wah-Kaba Falls
Wah-Kaba Falls is a waterfall in East Khasi Hills that plunges off a steep rock face into a deep, forested gorge, with a drop usually given as about 170–190 metres. It lies beside the main Shillong–Sohra (Cherrapunji) road, roughly 9 km before Sohra town, so it is one of the first big waterfalls travellers see on the way to Sohra. The falls are worth a stop because they take little time and effort: the viewpoint is a short walk from the road, and on a clear day you can see the full drop and the green valley below. In the monsoon the flow is heavy and the gorge often fills with mist, while in the dry months the stream thins to a narrow ribbon against the cliff. A local legend says two fairies live at the falls. Because it sits on the Sohra route, Wah-Kaba is usually combined with other stops such as the Mawkdok Dympep valley viewpoint, Nohkalikai Falls and the Sohra caves.
What to expect at Wah-Kaba Falls
Viewpoint: A viewing platform at the edge of the cliff looks across the gorge to the falls. Walk: About 10–15 minutes on a stone path and steps from where vehicles stop; rocks near the edge can be wet and windy. Base trail: A steep trail with many steps goes further down towards the base; it is slippery in the rains and best attempted only in dry weather by fit walkers. Facilities: Roadside parking; facilities are basic, so carry water. Visibility: Fog can hide the falls entirely, especially in the monsoon, so be ready to wait a few minutes for it to clear.

Best Time to Visit
July to November
Monsoon (June–September) gives the strongest flow, but heavy rain and thick fog often block the view and paths are slippery. Post-monsoon (October–November) is the best balance: good water volume, clearer skies and drier steps. Winter (December–February) brings clear views but a thinner stream. In spring (March–May) the falls can shrink to a trickle before the rains return. Early to mid-morning usually has the clearest view before afternoon cloud builds up over the Sohra plateau.
