About Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point

Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point sits beside the main Shillong–Sohra (Cherrapunji) road in East Khasi Hills, just before the Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge, which is why it is also called the Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge viewpoint. From the railing you look down into a deep, steep-sided green valley with terraced slopes and small settlements on the far side. On clear days the view runs a long way down the gorge. It is the first major stop for most people driving from Shillong to Sohra, and it takes little effort: the viewpoint is right next to the road. That makes it an easy break on a Cherrapunji day trip rather than a destination in itself. The valley is also one of the better-known zipline sites in Meghalaya. Operators run lines across the gorge, and even if you do not ride, you can watch from the roadside. Morning visits usually give the clearest views, as cloud and mist often fill the valley later in the day, especially during the rains.

What to expect at Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point

Stalls: A few tea and snack stalls, plus small shops selling shawls, caps and wooden souvenirs. Traditional Khasi outfits can be rented for photos. Parking: Roadside parking along the highway; it gets crowded on weekends and in peak season.

Mawkdok Dympep is about 25–30 km from Shillong on the Shillong–Sohra road, a drive of roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic out of the city. The road passes Upper Shillong and Mawkdok; the viewpoint is on the roadside just before the Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge, so no walking is needed beyond a few metres. From Sohra (Cherrapunji) it is roughly 25–30 km back towards Shillong. Shared sumos to Sohra leave from Bara Bazar and Anjali taxi stand in Shillong, but they do not stop on request reliably and return options thin out by late afternoon. A private cab from Shillong can be booked with Tour Meghalaya and combined with the rest of a Sohra day trip.
